Sitges for Gay Visitors, Spain
Gay tourism and Sitges
With its tolerant attitude and active support of the gay movement, Sitges is a great place for gay holiday-makers. Local businesses embrace the gay tourism market and this is one of Europe's top locations for gay travel.
The fast-paced and exciting nightlife of Sitges makes it a popular destination for those who like to party. A range of gay clubs hosts interesting theme nights and fun events, two of the most frequented being Trailer and Organic. The former, where foam parties take place on Sundays and Wednesdays, is only open in summer, but other clubs such as Oreks, Pacha, Rickys and Route 66 are great for action-packed evenings out. Some of the good bars in Sitges include Bourbons, Mediterraneo, Piano and Man Bar.
Sitges has plenty to offer epicureans, with restaurants such as La Santa Maria, which offers excellent seafood at low prices. One can try the gourmet Catalan food on the terraces at Maricel or La Fragata, or the steaks at El Cellar Vell.
There are some great beaches in Sitges, including naturist beaches, for relaxing in the sun. There is a wide range of gay-friendly accommodation choices, and one can choose from guest-houses, pensions and hotels to suit every budget.
The annual Sitges Carnival is an enjoyable event, but the gay traveller should try to time his visit during the Sitges Gay Carnival, which takes place a few days before the main celebrations. Sitges Gay Pride is held annually in July.
Another great event is Bears Week in Sitges every May. Learn more...
