Barcelona Tapas Tours

Organised Tapas Tours, Barcelona

Most of the newly arrived tourists in Barcelona ask: Where can we get the best tapas? In fact, tapas have to do as much with Barcelona as has Flamenco dancing with the Riviera. Tapas originally come from the south of spain, from Andalucia, where bartenders add them - without cost - if one orders a drink, for example a glass of wine or beer. Since the barmen of the catalan capital don‘t want to frighten away tourists, everyone in Barcelona gets tapas until your head drops.

Every style is welcome. In a design surrounding you can taste tapas at Piscolabis in a high, huge dinner saloon at Rambly Catalunya 27. The interior of this modernistic building was designed by the catalan architect Francesc de P. Villar i Carmona. But don‘t be afraid, in spite of the popular situation the prices are not exaggerated high.

The basque variation of the tapas are called Pintxos. Pintxos are little slices of baguette, topped with different culinaric things like catalan sausages, tortilla, serrano ham, egg salad, croquettes filled with cod or gambas on a stick. In the Irati Taverna Basca (Cardenal Casanas 17) you can choose from an endless variety of Pintxos even in the morning, all set up on top of the bar. You get a plate, and then you can take as much Pintxos as you like. At the end the sticks are counted, and for every Pintxo you consumed you have to pay 1,80 Euro.

In one of the oldest milkfactories of the city, dating back to the 17th century, Katherine McLaughlin has opened a cheese shop, in which you can try country cheese from all spanish regions (Formatgeria La Seu, Carrer Dagueria 16). Ten years the scottish lady spent in studying spanish cheese, and now she is proud to own the only shop in Barcelona with this variety. She knows every cheesemaker personally and has around 25 cheese on store.

But also in hidden sidestreets of the barrio gotico you can discover traditional and nice tapas bars - the menu is not always in English, though - if there is one at all!
